Legal age to purchase cannabis in Quebec is now 21, highest in Canada
Quebec makes a major change prior to restricted collection of cannabis edible products are set to hit shelves.
The legal age to buy or possess cannabis is now 21 in Quebec. Effective since Jan 1, 2020. This move puts Quebec as the highest minimum age for cannabis use in Canada.
With the exception of Alberta, where the legal age is 18, For the rest of Canada, cannabis is permitted for use at age 19.
The Quebec law, passed by the Coalition Avenir Québec government on Nov. 1. Also means people under 21 aren’t allowed on the premises of any Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) outlet.
This move is very shocking considering Quebec has the lowest minimum age for drinking Alcohol in Canada at 18.
The government rules state that individuals below twenty-one are going to be prohibited from possessing cannabis, although they bought it lawfully before the year.
It amounts to a “total forbidden for minors to possess cannabis”.compared with federal rules that prohibit a minor from possessing the equivalent of 5 grams of dried cannabis.
